Our Story

About Street Lights

Founded in March 2020 by Deon Chapman, Street Lights Billiards Academy is the first and only private billiards academy on the East Coast. 8-Ball Rules (BCA/CSI)

Object of the Game

8-Ball is played with a cue ball and 15 object balls numbered 1-15. One player must pocket balls 1-7 (solids), while the other pockets 9-15 (stripes). The player legally pocketing the 8-ball after clearing their group wins.

The Break

The cue ball must be played from behind the head string. At least 4 object balls must contact cushions or a ball must be pocketed, otherwise it's an illegal break.

Call Shot

Players must call the ball and pocket. Obvious shots need not be called. Bank shots and combinations should be called.

Ball in Hand

After a foul, incoming player gets ball in hand anywhere on the table.

9-Ball Rules (BCA/CSI)

Object of the Game

9-Ball is played with balls 1-9. Players must always contact the lowest numbered ball first, but may pocket any ball. The player pocketing the 9-ball wins the game.

The Rack

Balls are racked in a diamond shape with the 1-ball at the apex and 9-ball in the center. All other balls are placed randomly.

Push Out

Immediately after the break, the player at the table may call a "push out." The cue ball may be hit to any position without penalty. Opponent may accept position or pass the shot back.

Three Foul Rule

If a player commits three consecutive fouls, they lose the game. The opponent must warn the player when they are on two fouls.

10-Ball Rules (CSI)

Object of the Game

Similar to 9-Ball, but played with balls 1-10 in a triangle rack. The 10-ball must be called in a specific pocket to win. This is a "call pocket" game.

The Rack

Balls are racked in a triangle with the 1-ball at the apex, 10-ball in the center, and all other balls placed randomly.

Call Pocket

Unlike 9-Ball, players must call the pocket for the 10-ball. Obvious shots need not be called, but bank shots and combinations must be.

Why 10-Ball?

10-Ball is considered by many professionals to be a more challenging and "pure" test of skill due to the call-pocket requirement, reducing the luck factor present in 9-Ball.
